During Emperor Diocletian’s persecution of Christians, George refused to renounce his faith. He openly declared his Christianity and rejected the emperor’s orders to sacrifice to pagan gods. As a result, he was imprisoned and tortured in various ways, yet he remained steadfast. His unwavering faith inspired many to convert.
One of the most famous legends about Saint George is his battle with a dragon that terrorized a city. By slaying the beast, he symbolized the triumph of good over evil and the power of Christian faith.
Saint George was ultimately beheaded for his beliefs around 303 AD. His veneration spread across the Christian world, and he became the patron saint of many countries, including England and Georgia. He is often depicted as a knight slaying a dragon, symbolizing his courage and faith. His feast day is celebrated on April 23.
